When you plan a cosmetic surgery, the doctor usually gives you an approximate recovery time. It may take from several days to several weeks for the body to recover completely. Plan your recovery ahead to get the best results faster.
Before the surgery.
If you work and cannot take a vacation for your recovery, try to schedule the surgery on Friday to get the whole weekend to recover.
Check your schedule for the next two weeks, and make sure you have no appointments that may prolong your recovery time. Try to get more rest, and reduce the amount of stress.
Purchase groceries for your recovery time, or ask somebody to do it for you. After the surgery you’ll need all the rest that is possible. Try to eliminate the unnecessary shopping, cleaning and cooking until your body recovers completely.
Arrange the transportation to and from the plastic surgery clinic. You will not be able to drive after the surgery and while taking the pain medication, and it’s a good idea to arrange your ride ahead of time. Be prepared for the follow-up checkups, you will need the ride for them too.
Prepare all the necessary medication before your surgery, so that you don’t need to ask somebody to do it for you afterwards.
After the surgery.
Get as much rest as possible. Your body needs the energy to recover, do not plan anything that may cause stress during the first days after your surgery.
Questions to ask your doctor:
- When may I shower and wash my hair?
- Which vitamins and supplements may I take?
- When will I be able to return to work after the surgery?
- Which creams and lotions can use?
Even if you are able to work in a couple of days, you may still be taking the pain medicine. Arrange your working commute with your friends and colleges until you stop taking your medicine.
Try to avoid the direct sun light, use high level SPF for the first year after the surgery.
And again, try to relax and get as much rest as possible.
