“New year, new you.” It’s an oft-heard phrase in January, but one that encourages change for the better. At Peninsula Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, our team is ready to help you realize your goals. Whether you seek non-surgical facial treatments to restore a youthful appearance, or surgery to correct your body’s shape or symmetry, we are here to listen and recommend the next steps. Summer will be here before you realize it, so if you have contemplated work to get your body beach ready, this is the time to book a consultation.
Your cosmetic surgeon may recommend booking a procedure like liposuction during the winter months for a number of reasons. For one, if your social calendar is light early in the year, you can use the time to properly recover. With specific surgeries like fat removal, you may also wear a compression garment to aid in reshaping your body. These may be more comfortable to wear when it’s colder. Having liposuction performed early in the year may also benefit you if you are more active in the summer months. You will look and feel different, and have more confidence and energy to take on your favorite activities.
Is Liposuction Permanent?
Liposuction is one of the most requested procedures at our Hampton Roads practice. It is a one-time treatment in which fat cells are removed from the abdomen, hips, or other problem areas of the body through small incisions. Patients opt for liposuction to help attain a desired body shape, be it after childbirth or weight gain, or to improve the body’s look as it ages.
Liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure and may take as long as four to eight hours, including post-op recovery, depending on the amount of work done. One question we are asked among people interested in this treatment is how long the effects of liposuction will last.
Removal of fat cells is permanent. Fat cells will not grow back, and therefore the contours resulting from a procedure can last indefinitely. However, it’s important to take care of your body so that your desired results remain intact. Good diet and exercise will help.
